Reporting a road problem

Call the road garage at 740.674.6565 to report a washout, a downed tree, a damaged culvert, a sign that is missing or a road that needs attention. If no one answers at the garage, the Township Hall at 740.674.7071 will take the message.

For a hazard that is dangerous right now — a road blocked by a crash, a live wire down, a fire — call 911.

Which roads the township maintains

Not every road in Wayne Township is a township road. State routes are maintained by ODOT and county roads by the Muskingum County Engineer. If you are not sure which applies to your road, the road garage can tell you and point you to the right office.

Driveway culverts

A new or replacement driveway connecting to a township road needs a culvert permit before the work is done, so the pipe is sized and set to carry the ditch properly. Installing the wrong size — or none at all — moves water onto the road and onto neighbouring property.

Snow and ice

The crew treats and plows township roads through the winter. Priority goes to hills, curves and school-bus routes, so an outlying road may be cleared later than a main one in the same storm.

Two things that genuinely help: keep parked vehicles off the roadway during a storm, and pile shovelled or plowed snow on your own side rather than across the road.

Closures and detours are posted on the township news board and removed once the road reopens.
